Trying to find info on my gold "CREST" pocket watch.

Trying to find info on my gold "CREST" pocket watch.

Postby Tyndall on Wed Oct 14, 2009 5:17 pm

I have an old pocket watch, that I think is solid gold (but could be wrong). I'm thinking it came from my G-Grandfather, but I got it from my fathers estate. The numbering on the face is Arabic, with a second hand at the bottom. It is not round but has some kind of straight sides, and the bottom is wider that the top (were the winder is). The back is pin stripped with a small rest in the middle for engaving (but there is none). Now, the only marking I can find on it, is what I believe is the makers name, in the same area were timex prints theirs, and it says "CREST".

Any info out there on this one? I plan to take it to a local jeweler to have him check it out sometime this week.

Cheers,

I think I just saw your watch at this link http://www.vintagewatch.ca/?p=577. It's gold filled. 1920s-30s. The movement is a Swiss made Crest and it was cased in Canada. They want $295 for it.

Thanks very much, yup, that's it. But too bad, this one is not in working conditon. I took the back off, and it looks good, but the man spring must be gone. Thanks again for your help.

If you hear a little click on every round while winding, the mainspring is slipping past the little protrusion that it hooks to on the shaft that winds it in the barrel. It's easy to fix but sometime hard to get to. thewatchguy.com, cwrnh.com technical pages.
